Municipal Court
Court Clerk for the Camas-Washougal Municipal
Court
This package is to add 1.0 FTE Court Clerk to
the Municipal Court and to eliminate the 0.4 FTE Court Clerk that we currently
contract with Clark County for those services.
Background
Currently the Lead
Court Clerk is a City of Camas employee and we contract with Clark County to
provide 0.4 FTE.
Current situation
The workload is
increasing and the 1.4 FTE cannot keep up with the workload, requiring
significant amounts of overtime and the staff struggles to get the work done.
It is also difficult for the Lead Court Clerk to take vacation or sick days, as
she is needed every day.
Proposed solution
We would hire a
Court Clerk and no longer contract for the 0.4 FTE. We would need to retain the
0.4 FTE for the first half of the year to hire and train a new clerk.
Expenditure Calculations and Assumptions
Assume that we hire
a Court Clerk at step 4 starting in April 1. Add 30% for benefits and $2,000
for incidental costs. Reduce the costs assuming that the 0.4 FTE works the
first half of the year, during the hiring and training period. The full amount
of the 0.4 FTE will be deducted in 2020.
