Public Works - Equipment Rental
1 FTE - Mechanic
Hire one (1) new Mechanic to maintain levels of service.
Background
The City has not hired a new mechanic since 2007. Over the last decade, the City’s fleet has grown in size, and staff has began focusing more on preventative maintenance. Additionally, over the last few years the fleet has become significantly more complex pulling the Lead Mechanic away from maintenance activities and more towards fleet management.
Current situation
With the increase in size of fleet, focus on preventative maintenance, and additional need for fleet management, maintenance of the City’s vehicles has slowed making it difficult on crews when there are breakdowns.
Proposed solution
To maintain levels of service, hire one new FTE to help complete maintenance on the City’s equipment rental fleet.  
The addition of this FTE would likely increase Equipment Rental Rates that are charged to the various funds and departments of the City.
